Throughout his 25 years in education, primarily at Christian schools, Don Johnson, Superintendent of Cascade Christian Schools in Puyallup, WA, realized that, while teachers graduate from college well-equipped to teach their subject matter, they receive little or no training in teaching from a biblical perspective. Don began to have conversations with the leadership team at Cascade, and with colleagues from other schools, about the need for practical training for teachers in the art of integrating the Bible into every subject, at every grade level. Don discovered that he shared a vision and passion for biblical worldview integration with Christian Overman, Director of Worldview Matters, Inc., and Think Again! workshops. Don and Chris worked with the leadership team, the school board, and the pastors’ council of Cascade Christian Schools, putting together training and a planner to help teachers to integrate biblical truth into any lesson, at any grade level. They began using the planner with a team of pilot teachers from the early childhood level through high school. Those teachers mentored other teachers at Cascade as they implemented this tool. The teachers were excited, finding that the Bible and biblical principles became interwoven throughout their teaching rather than being merely "tacked on" object lessons. As they implemented these ideas and the practical methodology, other school administrators began to ask for the training at their individual schools. The Making the Connections workshop and book were born out of this need. In 2002, the School Board voted to create the Biblical Worldview Institute as a division of Cascade Christian Schools, and to provide the Making the Connections workshop and book available to other Christian schools. The vision of the Biblical Worldview Institute is to expand their work to include tools for school administrators, pastors, business leaders, parents and others to integrate God’s Truth into their lives in a relevant and practical way.
